In our world, this is a common story.

A couple has lived with their builder-grade bathroom for as long as they can and are ready for an upgrade to make it more functional. They wanted to create a bathroom and fresh space with a new design, while also making it safer for them as they grow older and age in place. Not surprisingly, this project had a pandemic twist. Covid hit right as we were ready to start construction. In an abundance of caution, they held off for a couple of years.

Now, they finally got their dream bathroom after years of waiting! It was worth the wait. 😉

Let’s begin here. There’s a large bathtub that takes up a ton of space and in this case, was rarely used. It’s common for builders to put large garden tubs in their new homes. So you know, removing these tubs is the single most frequent thing that we do in remodeled bathrooms. We’re here to tell you that in our experience the square footage is valuable space that can be much better utilized.

For example, this space was used for a makeup vanity.  For many, when it comes to organizing your bathroom, it can be overwhelming to tackle or even begin. Out of all the rooms in the house, it’s best that the bathroom needs to be very clean + sanitary, which can’t happen without proper storage.

We installed custom cabinet pullouts, which allows them to get the most out of their cabinet space. On one side, there is a space for hair tools (hairdryer, curling iron, etc.), with an electrical outlet for easy access. The other side has multiple containers for hair products, makeup, etc.  We installed a Double Face Round LED magnifying mirror to assist with all the makeup needs! It’s dreamy, wouldn’t you agree?

Additionally, we replaced the antiquated phonebooth shower with a beautiful walk-in double shower!  (Fingers crossed they stay in the past) We did two different mosaic shower tiles, one for the floor and one for the walls, both in shades of gray that complement each other well.  Leaving the small window in the shower brings a lot of natural light.

We installed two 5-Setting Angular Modern Raincan Shower Heads from Delta, which use 20% less water, which, in return, is better for the environment! In addition to the two shower heads, we also installed a hand shower on a slider bar. We also added a Kohler Towel Rack into the shower to hold bath towels that are accessible.

Let us not fail to mention the bathroom previously had carpet! (Fingers crossed that the carpet trend in the bathroom never resurfaces :))

We added new flooring in the bathroom, closets, and bedroom. We replaced the dated cultured marble sink vanity countertop with a grey with white veining quartz countertop, provided new fixtures, and backsplash. We added fresh Benjamin Moore white paint and additional lighting. The Verdera Lighted mirrors deliver optimally bright and shadowless bathroom lighting that is exceptionally close to natural light.

Builder-grade is typically short for meaning it will only last as long as the short builder warranty. Changing out sinks, faucets and cheap light fixtures give us a chance to provide fixtures that look better are more energy-efficient, and will last much longer.

Here’s your reminder from Stearns: A new bathroom improves the quality of life while increasing the value of a home investment!
