Let’s talk Kitchen Cabinet Color Trends for 2023! Our designer, Preston, is giving us what will be trending in 2023 and what is on its way out.

We will begin with the classic white cabinets.

White cabinets may not be the most trendy choice, but they are timeless, so they appeal to many- you won’t want to change their color in 5 years. In addition, by choosing features that stand the test of time, you’ll save yourself money (and the work of remodeling) down the line.

Preston’s Pick: Benjamin Moore OC-152 Super White.

Let’s move on to earthy green tones.

Two specifically: lighter, warm greens and cooler, dark greens. Earth tones are a growing rage; green works well and have health benefits.

The shade of green depends significantly on the atmosphere and feeling you are trying to create. For a cozier, warmer feeling space- go light. Opt for the darker forest green for a darker, moodier, bolder look.

Next, we have Blue Cabinets, both light and dark.

Light blues for a whole kitchen, dark blues for specific cabinets only (i.e., all lowers, island accent). The dark blue will need (and look best with) a clean, pure white to balance out the boldness of the blue and to keep the space from being too dark and heavy.

Blues will be less popular as they are not earth tones like reds, browns, and greens. Blue will work best with certain styles, like modern, cottage, and coastal.

Preston’s Picks: Evening Blue 2066-20 by Benjamin Moore and Blue Wave 2065-50 by Benjamin Moore

Lastly, we have natural wood-finished cabinets.

No stain; just putting a clear coat over natural, light wood tones like Birch. This gives the space a warm, more natural feeling that works to a similar effect as the greens- earth tones that evoke comfort and health.

Most clients will not want their entire kitchen like this, so they will likely only use a natural finish on particular cabinets like the island or base cabinets. Again, we will see this often paired with pure whites or greens.

What colors are out?

Gray cabinets. Gray was the color that replaced beige about ten years ago, and now it is on its way out, being replaced by these other colors. Gray has gotten too cold and dull for many people, especially after being stuck in their homes during the pandemic. People want warmth and coziness, which is what most of these colors provide, which is why they are growing in popularity.
