Home Office Addition: A Day in the Life Of Working From Home

Can You Relate?

The commotion happening in her home is just not conducive for work.

Zoom meetings were constantly being disrupted and it was difficult to stay focused with her to-do List looming and growing longer by the minute.

Now, Picture This:

It was 7:30 in the morning on a Texas summer day.

The house was still quiet as she strode out of the house, coffee in hand, to her new detached office overlooking the swimming pool, ready to start the workday.

The peace and joy she felt at facing the workday was a brand new feeling!

I’m sure you might be able to relate to this real-life scenario!

The experience above is just one example of a Stearns client who wanted our help with creating a new office space within their home or on their property.

In this instance, she envisioned a backyard office, so that’s exactly what we did!

She was unsure if this was even possible, but we quickly realized that there was a perfect spot for the new office of her dreams.

Our goals here were to create a large enough space to accommodate all of her work needs, including a view of the pool and diffused natural light to circumvent Zoom video glare ;)

Typically, detached spaces that are air-conditioned are a bit expensive to build, so we just tweaked the budget a bit, thus resulting in scaling back on the size just a smidgen and not including a bathroom or expansive deck.

The results of her new home office addition were spectacular!

The simple upward-sloping roofline provided elegant clean lines and reduced cost.

These large overhangs provide passive protection from solar gain and reduced glare, which is perfect for her overlooking the pool during her workday. The high front wall allowed for more diffused natural light.

Mission accomplished!

Now, her favorite time of day is the bright early morning. With coffee in hand, she heads out to her new office, overlooking the sparkling pool ready for a day of productive, focused, and undisturbed work

We all know how difficult working from home can be and continues to be. So many of us have experienced difficulties with adapting to work from home life

We had the pleasure of working with this client in the past on a kitchen remodel. We love repeat clients!

“Stearns did an excellent job, and our kitchen turned out better than I could have dreamed. We had been overwhelmed by all the potential choices before we engaged Stearns, and we found their design services to be hugely helpful. I was especially impressed by their professionalism. They told us exactly what everything would cost and when things would be done, and they stuck to those promises. They kept us updated every day on what was going on and when to expect workers. A day rarely passed when progress wasn’t made on the project. They were absolute sticklers on quality and at times made their subcontractors come back and redo things they weren’t satisfied with. A great experience.”
