Where is your happy place? For many of us, it is a place we go in our minds, and when you shut your eyes and escape the stress + restriction of everyday life to feel completely at ease.

At Stearns Design Build, we are all about happiness. Our purpose is to design and build happiness, which is our tagline. For us, this is a well-studied pursuit with the science behind it. We use our building knowledge to help your home to become your happy place. Using this theory can give you pleasure and time to build relationships with your loved ones.

We believe that our homes should be more than our happy place; they should be a collection of happy places. There should be a place within your home carefully crafted for every mood and activity. While we can only hope that you will come to us with a large budget and big ambitions to help you make your home a collection of all your happy places, a lot can be accomplished without large budgets or professional designers + builders.

Begin by thinking about the things that make you happy. Where does that happen? What can be adjusted to enhance that space? Often it is as easy as cleaning + decluttering or organizing to make a room more functional.

Try not to get caught up imagining something so grand that it is not likely to happen. For example, if you want to spend more time outside, you might imagine a beautifully manicured garden. It may be best to start with a bench placed well for the time of day you want to be outside. Don’t give up on the grand garden, but start with something that creates happiness now.

Here are some happy places in the home:

  • The kitchen; as a place for culinary expression or as a gathering place.

  • A hobby space

  • A luxurious bathroom

  • A cozy place to read

  • The kitchen table for family meals

  • A media space

  • A front porch to sit and enjoy the interaction with your neighbors

  • A back porch where you bird watch

  • A screened-in porch where you enjoy a quiet conversation or a backyard porch with a pergola – we like porches. They help connect people to nature, a proven way to create health and happiness.

Let us know where your happy place is and what you have done or plan to do, to enhance that space! We would love to hear about it!
