Stearns Home-Care, MatureWell Lifestyle Club, & CHI St Joseph Health WellFIT Program are hosting a free virtual seminar on September 23rd, 2020, at 1:00 PM.

Aging in Place, also known as seniors staying in their home longer, has been recognized as a significant quality of life and financial issue. Being at home allows seniors a higher level of independence, while also reducing the stress of individuals having to relocate. As you can imagine, a sense of connection to personal space becomes heightened as we all age.

According to Census Bureau projections, the number of Americans ages 65 and older is projected to nearly double from 52 million in 2018 to 95 million by 2060. This, along with a nursing shortage, is causing the assisted living options to increase in price. Staying at home is just one way that seniors are alleviating their living costs.

In addition, we are just beginning to see the negative effect of COVID-19 in nursing homes all around the country. For now and for the foreseeable future, things don’t look too good for older folks; they are dying from COVID-19 at significantly higher rates than younger individuals. Furthermore, when living in a retirement community or nursing home, the risk is even greater.

We have always been advocates for Aging In Place. By helping seniors stay in their homes longer falls directly within our mission of enhancing the quality of life in the home and providing environmentally friendly solutions.

We will be discussing things such as home modifications, home maintenance, lifestyle for independence, and physical & social factors affecting mobility.

To register, please contact Michele at mbuenger@st-joseph.org or at 979-731-6129. We’d love it if you joined us as we explore and share information on Aging in Place!  See the flyer below for more information!
